Pre-inspection of the rug is important (looking for any kind of damage, rips or tears, pet issues, stains or odors). The rug below went through a complete dusting with our large commercial rug dusting machine designed to beat the back side of the rug removing a large amount of very fine dust that vacuuming simply will not remove. From that point, the rug goes to the wash floor with continuous water flowing through the rug, a correct pH balance wool cleaner and labor intensive work washing the top side, back side and detailed fringe washing.
Our rug shop is equipped with machines made specifically for industrial rug washing and a critical part of the process is spinning the rolled rug in a long cylindrical machine called a centrifuge removing excess soap and dirt and allowing fresh water to run throughout rug and finally spinning out remaining moisture reducing the weight of the rug.
Onto the Drying room capable of drying a large 12×15 thick Chinese wool rug in less than 12 hours. High heat and high velocity fans with the rugs suspended into the air eliminate any kind of chance of incorporating musty odor to set in. That is a common issue with rug cleaning especially if cleaned in your home laying on your wood floor wet and the unwanted odor sets in.
Once dry the rug is inspected, additional stain removal is performed if needed, fringe is trimmed, wool is softened with a brush pile vacuum and the nap is set. Finally the rug is wrapped and set for delivery.
Is it a lot of work? Yes it is. Does it cost more to have a rug washed? Yes it does. But the result is superior in comparison to just a “clean” in your home.
